The Cecil Renaud Bursary Programme is aimed at students who wish to study a Master’s or Doctorate Degree at any institution of higher learning in the United Kingdom.
Students are required to boast a strong academic record, having obtained an average of at least 60% for their Undergraduate Degree. Prospective applicants are those who completed their high schooling in the Province of Kwazulu Natal, and should be below the age of 27 years of age.
The Cecil Renaud Bursary Programme will cover the costs associated with studying at any institution of higher learning in the United Kingdom and may be awarded to students studying in any field, provided that they comply with the bursary eligibility requirements.
Please note that the bursary will run for a period not exceeding two years.
The Cecil Renaud Bursary Programme was established by Dr. Cecil Renaud in 1988. Dr. Renaud was a successful businessman in the city of Durban, and donated his estate to the Cecil Renaud Educational and Charitable Trust after his death.
These funds have been used to fund the studies of over 36 students, year on year, changing the lives of those who wish to uplift South Africa.
Closing Date of the Cecil Renaud Bursary
Please note that bursary applications for the Cecil Renaud Bursary Programme will close on the 31 of October 2021.
Applications received after the closing date will not be considered for the Cecil Renaud Bursary Programme.
Cecil Renaud Bursary Requirements and Eligibility
Kindly note that prospective applicants need to satisfy all of the requirements of the Cecil Renaud Bursary in order to be considered for the Programme:
- Applicants are open to those who have achieved their Undergraduate or Master’s Degrees with an average of at least 60%.
- Applicants who are under the age of 27 years old.
- Applicants who completed their high-schooling in the Province of Kwazulu Natal.
- Applicants who pursued extra mural activities in either highschool or university.
- Applicants who wish to uplift South Africa and its people.
- Applicants who wish to study at an institution of higher learning in the United Kingdom.
Please note that the Cecil Renaud Bursary Programme is open to all students, regardless of their field of study.

Cecil Renaud Bursary Coverage
The Cecil Renaud Bursary Programme will last for a period not exceeding two years, providing successful applicants with financial assistance that will help pay for the costs associated with the relevant Maters Degree of PHD, at the University of choice in the United Kingdom.
The Bursary Programme can be used:
- To pay for costs associated with accomodation and food of the successful applicant.
- To pay for registration fees of the successful applicant.
- To pay for the books of the suucessful aplicant.
- To pay for the tuition fees of the successful applicant.
How to apply for the Cecil Renaud Bursary
Kindly note that prospective applicants should apply for the Cecil Renaud Bursary Programme online at the Cecil Renaud Online Application Portal.
The following supporting documentation/materials should be attached to the applicant’s application form:
- The applicant should attach a certified copy of their birth certificate.
- The applicant should attach a certified copy of the ID document.
- The applicant should provide a copy of their complete academic history, which will include their highschool as well as university results.
- The applicant should provide an updated version of their CV.
- The applicant should attach a passport style photograph of their face and shoulders.
- The applicant should provide a motivational letter stating why they believe they should be awarded the bursary.
Please note that the prospective applicant should attach a separate letter, stating which university they wish to study at and what they plan to do with their lives post-graduation.
Failure to adhere to the application requirements will result in the application being disregarded.
