RU Application Process

Exchange Students

Exchange students have a wide variety of courses to choose from at RU. More than 250 courses are offered in English. In order to apply, you must fill in the online application by the mentioned deadlines.

Bachelor’s Students

For Bachelor’s programmes, certain requirements need to be fulfilled. Information about the different programmes offered is available online, as is information about the admission process. Requirements vary on your programme. Find your programme to find out what your specific requirements are. There is only one (the International Economics and Business) Bachelor’s programme that’s taught in English. Therefore, you will have to prove your proficiency in Dutch if applying for any other Bachelor programme at RU. Make sure you take into account these language requirements when applying.

Master’s Students

For Master’s programmes, necessary information is also available online. Make sure you check your specific programme’s page to find out what specific requirements may be needed.

General admission requirements and details for admission for Master’s programmes differ from those for Bachelor’s programmes. Note that there are specific language requirements when applying for a Master’s programme in the Netherlands. The application procedure also differs. Remember, you must apply through Studielink. There is information about the general application procedure for Master’s students, but note that you should check your programme’s specific requirements as well.

PhD Programmes

RU also offers PhD programmes. PhD positions are considered as staff positions in the Netherlands and therefore have no formal admission requirements like Bachelor’s or Master’s degrees.

4. RU Deadlines

Bachelor’s students

  • For non-EEA students the deadline is 1st of March;
  • For Dutch students and students from EEA-countries there are two deadlines:
  • – If you apply before the 1st of May,you participate in the first round of selection and you will receive the admission/non-admission statement in May;
  • – If you apply after the 1st of May and before the final deadline of 15th of June, you will participate in the second round of selection and will receive the admission/non-admission statement in July.

Master’s Students

RU has set a deadline for enrolment in Master’s programmes given in English.

Non-EEA residents who apply before 1 March will be guaranteed accommodation, support with visa and residence permit. If you apply after this date, RU will still consider your application but cannot give any guarantees.

For Master’s students from one of the EEA countries, this deadline is 1 May of each year. You will receive an admissions decision approximately three months after have sent in your request for admission.
Some (Research) Master’s have set their own additional deadlines. Please go to the Master’s programme of your choice to find out about these deadlines.
