The Tegkor/Nelson Mandela University Accounting Bursary is aimed at Nelson Mandela University (NMU) Undergraduate as well as Postgraduate students who are in need of financial assistance.
Preference will be given to students who fall into the ‘missing middle’ category. These are students who are unable to afford their tuition fees yet don’t qualify for free access to higher education.
The Nelson Mandela University (NMU) is based in the Eastern Cape and is one of the most sought after and diverse tertiary institutions in South Africa. The Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU) opened on the 1st of January 2005. NMMU was the result of a merger between Vista University, the PE Technikon and the University of Port Elizabeth (UPE).
The NMMU changed its name in 2017 to the NMU, providing an opportunity for the institution to rebrand itself in an era of national transformation.
Closing Date of the Bursary
Please note that bursary applications for the Tegkor/Nelson Mandela University Accounting Bursary Programme will close on the 30 of April 2021. Applications received after the closing date will not be considered for the Bursary Programme.
About the Bursary
The Tegkor/Nelson Mandela University Accounting Bursary is aimed at NMU Undergraduate as well as Postgraduate students who are in need of financial assistance.

The Tegkor/Nelson Mandela University Accounting Bursary will assist:
- First year students studying BCom Accounting/BCom Accounting Sciences.
- Second and third year students studying BCom Accounting, BCom General Accounting or BCom Accounting Sciences.
- Postgraduate students studying a Diploma in Accounting (PGDA-CTA), Accountancy (PGDA) or Internal Auditing (PGDIA).
Tegkor/Nelson Mandela University Accounting Bursary Requirements and Eligibility
Prospective applicants need to satisfy all of the requirements of the Tegkor/Nelson Mandela University Accounting Bursary in order to be considered for the Programme.
Please note that preference will be given to students who are in financial need of the Bursary.
First Year Students:
- Applications are open to South African citizens ONLY.
- Applications are open to students who have been admitted into the BCom Accounting/Bcom Accounting Sciences.
- Students should be enrolled at the Nelson Mandela University in 2021.
- Students boasting excellent National Senior Certificate (NSC) results.
- Students with an Applicant Score (AS) of 420 or higher.
- Students who achieved 80% or more for Mathematics.
Second and Third Year Students:
- Applications are open to South African citizens ONLY.
- Applications are open to students studying a BCom Accounting, BCom General Accounting or BCom Accounting Sciences.
- Students should be enrolled at the Nelson Mandela University in 2021.
- Applications are open to students with an academic average of 70% for their First Year or 65% in their Second Year.
- Applications are open to students who have made a contribution to society/others.
Postgraduate Students:
ADVERTISEMENT
- Applications are open to South African Students ONLY.
- Applications are open to Postgraduate students studying a Diploma in Accounting (PGDA-CTA), Accountancy (PGDA) or Internal Auditing (PGDIA).
- Students should be enrolled at the Nelson Mandela University in 2021.
- Applications are open to students who averaged at least 60% in their Undergraduate Degree.
Failure to comply with the Bursary requirements will result in a rejected application.
Bursary Coverage
The Tegkor/Nelson Mandela University Accounting Bursary Programme will provide successful applicants with financial assistance which will help pay for the costs of the relevant degree. Successful applicants will have their student accounts directly credited with the Bursary.
- First year students will be credited with R12 500.
- Second and Third year students will be credited with R7 500.
- Postgraduate students will be credited with R7 500.
Please note that successful applicants are provided with the opportunity to use the Tegkor/Nelson Mandela University Accounting Bursary alongside other Bursaries.

First Year Students:
- The applicant should provide a copy of their ID document.
- The applicant should provide proof of their household income.
- The applicant should provide a copy of their matric results.
Second and Third Year Students:
- The applicant should provide a copy of their ID document.
- The applicant should provide proof of their household income.
- The applicant should provide a copy of their academic history.
- The applicant should provide testimonials of their contribution to society
The social component will take the project(s), length of the project as well as the number of beneficiaries into account.
Postgraduate Students:
- The applicant should provide a copy of their ID document.
- The applicant should provide proof of their household income.
- The applicant should provide a copy of their academic history.
