SAVF Bursary 2021 – 2022 South Africa-Application Process

The SAVF Bursary Programme aims to provide financial assistance to 4th and 5th year Veterinary Science (BVSc) students, studying at the University of Pretoria (UP). Prospective applicants should play an active role in student life, which may take the form of sporting or cultural activities and are required to boast a strong academic record.

The SAVF Bursary programme provides 2 bursaries valued at R10 000 each. The bursaries are currently funded by the Pet Memorial Fund, veterinary wholesaler Lakato (Pty) Ltd. and Mercantile Bank.

The South African Veterinary Foundation (SAVF) is registered with the Department of Social Development as a non-profit organisation. Founded in 1984, the SAVF was established to help promote and raise awareness for both Veterinary as well as Biological Sciences. The South African Veterinary Foundation (SAVF) engages in extensive veterinary research projects and actively provides financial assistance to needy Veterinary Science students. This helps ensure that financially needy students who have a passion for Veterinary Science are provided with the opportunity to pursue their studies.

Closing Date of the Bursary

Please note that bursary applications for the SAVF Bursary Programme will close on the 30 of April 2021.

Applications received after the closing date will not be considered for the SAVF Bursary Programme.

The SAVF foundation prides itself in providing bursaries to Veterinary Science (BVSc) students in need of financial assistance.

Applications are open to 4th and 5th year students studying a Veterinary Science Degree (BVSc) at the University of Pretoria (UP).

SAVF Bursary Requirements and Eligibility

Kindly note that prospective applicants need to satisfy all of the SAVF Bursary requirements to be considered for the programme. The requirements for the SAVF Bursary Programme are as follows:

  • Applications are open to South African citizens ONLY.
  • Applications are open to students who have successfully obtained their National Senior Certificate (NSC).
  • Applicants should be studying a Veterinary Science Degree (BVSc) at the University of Pretoria (UP).
  • Applicants should be in the 4th or 5th year of their Veterinary Science Degree (BVSc) in 2021.
  • Applicants studying the Veterinary Science Degree (BVSc) should boast an academic average of at least 60%.
  • Applications are open to students who play an active role in student life, which may take the form of extramural cultural and sporting activities.
  • Applications are open to students who are in need of financial assistance.

Failure to adhere to the application requirements will result in the application being disregarded.

What Does This Bursary Cover?

The SAVF Bursary Programme will provide the successful Veterinary Science applicants with financial assistance valued at R10 000. The SAVF Bursary may be used to help cover a portion of the expenses related to studying a Veterinary Science Degree (BVSc).

Please note that successful applicants will not be enrolled in an in-house training programme or work back obligation upon completing their Veterinary Science Degree (BVSc). Successful applicants are not required to reimburse the SAVF if they have failed to obtain their Veterinary Science Degree (BVSc).

The following supporting documentation must be attached to the applicant’s online application form:

  • The applicant should supply their name.
  • The applicant should supply their University of Pretoria (UP) student number.
  • The applicant should supply their current year of study relating to their Veterinary Science Degree (BVSc).
  • The applicant should indicate their current student debt, uploaded via a PDF document.
  • The applicant should supply proof of their complete academic history for the previous year of studies.
  • The applicant should supply their CV on SAVF’s electronic web application form.

Please note that prospective applicants must complete 10 multiple choice questions relating to the South African Veterinary Foundation (SAVF).

Failure to adhere to the application requirements could result in the application being disregarded.

The granting of the SAVF Bursary is at the sole discretion of the SAVF.
